Wed, 13th Mar 2019

The police have purchased an additional 300 body-worn cameras for their officers and they will come into use in the next quarter, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement Tuesday.

The statement noted that 100 body cams first came into use for PSP officers carrying out duties on the peninsula in March last year on a trial basis.

The statement said that PSP officers have activated their body cams on 21 occasions since March last year, primarily for tackling disputes among people.

The statement said that the use of the body-worn cameras during the trial period has proved to be effective, adding that the Public Security Police have purchased another 300 new model body cams. The statement said that the new model body cams will enable police officers to carry out tasks more flexibly.

According to the statement, the 300 new body cams will come into use in the next quarter for PSP officers carrying out duties in Taipa and Coloane, as well as for traffic police officers, tactical unit officers, immigration officers, tourist police officers, and also for officers at the Public Security Forces Academy in Coloane.(Macaunews)
